Two poems on interacting with reality
Hello Readers! We hope this finds you well. I realized that in last week’s newsletter we made no mention of the election results, which may have felt like an odd omission to some people. It’s interesting what pulls our attention on any given day or in any given moment, and how the process of giving our attention can feel involuntary but is in fact usually under our control. We’ve long joked in our household about how good David is at tuning out the kids and how it’s nearly impossible for me to do it. 😅 Often I have to get his attention and direct it towards them. And having kids with particular sensitivities to sounds, textures, flavors really helps one notice things that before were outside of their noticing realm. I picked up Michael Singer’s book Living Untethered again this week for a reread and I appreciate his framework of the richness of life that is available to us if we can get beyond feeling a need to like or dislike everything, when we realize that the reality in front of us isn’t personal, we’re just the one chosen to witness it.
As long as you have certain desires about how it ought to be you can’t see how it is. - Ram Dass
May you notice the aspects of your life that are beautiful and rich and spend a little more time there this week. 💕

I started the novel A Deadly Education this week and am loving it! Great recommendation from a friend of mine. Kind of Harry Potter-esque but with a female protaganist and more vibrant interpersonal relationships and magic with a real cost. 📚 ✨
